The David I Walsh Assembly Honor Guard served at the Mass to honor the Watertown Police and Fire Department. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Robert P. Reed ( a member of our Assembly) at Saint Patrick’s Church on Sunday October 6, 2024.
Ryan E. Sullivan, 37, of Needham, passed away at home on Sunday, October 1, 2023, after a valiant 10-year battle with Glioblastoma. Cherished son of John M. and Nancy M. (McAuliffe) Sullivan and devoted brother of Neil A. Sullivan. Nephew of Bill Sullivan and his wife Linda of Marlborough, MA, Jaye Koontz of Deer Isle, ME and Carol Avery of Maynard, MA. Ryan is also survived by his cousins.
Ryan was a graduate of Catholic Memorial HS, Class of 2005 and St. Joseph’s College of Maine, Class of 2009. He was an active member of the Needham Knights of Columbus and the David I Walsh Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan and enjoyed playing cribbage.
One of the most important functions of the Fourth Degree is providing Guards of Honor at Mass, wakes, funerals, dedications and many other civic or patriotic functions. The Assembly is looking for Sir Knights to join the honor guard. Please contact the Honor Guard Commander Hank Pilla for more information.
The Honor Guard was present for the November 11, 2024 Veterans Day ceremonies on the Waltham Common. Here, our Honor Guard leads the Honor Guards from the Waltham Police and Fire Departments and a contingent of veterans and elected officials to the Circle of Reembrace in the Waltham Common.

This book tells a uniquely American story of faith in action. From its 1882 founding by a handful of men from a small, predominantly Irish Catholic parish in New Haven, Connecticut, the Knights of Columbus has grown to an international brotherhood of nearly 2 million members across North America and throughout the world. Formed by Father Michael J. McGivney with the men of his parish, the new fraternal organization was committed to the principles of charity and unity, while supporting the faith and financial viability of its members and their families. From its earliest days, the organization made the case that one could be both a good Catholic and a true American citizen, pushing back against the religious discrimination that was all too common. It would soon grow into an organization whose members supported one another while also contributing to their parishes, their communities, their countries, and the world.
Born and raised in a Connecticut factory town, the son of Irish immigrants, Father Michael McGivney's (1852-1890) legacy of hope is still celebrated around the world. At a time when discrimination against American Catholics, homelessness, and starvation were widespread, Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, an organization that has helped save countless families from the indignity of destitution.
In this moving and inspirational work, Douglas Brinkley, the New York Times bestselling author of The Great Deluge and The Boys of Pointe du Hoc, and award-winning author Julie M. Fenster re-create the all-too-brief life of perhaps the most beloved parish priest in U.S. history and chronicle the process of canonization that may well make this fiercely dynamic yet tenderhearted man the first American-born priest to be declared a saint by the Vatican.
This book is a spiritual journey with the Blessed Mother. It invites us to enter into Holy Scripture seen through Her eyes. It offers us thought provoking reflections on Our Lady’s action in our daily lives.
The Virgin Mother shows us in today’s confused world how to live and how to love according to the Gospel. Mary says “yes” to God at what seems to be the impossible of life. She takes risks for the sake of Jesus. Mary boldly intercedes in scenarios where others would shy away. Our Lady dares to forgive in the most unforgivable circumstances. This Heavenly Mother of ours remains with us despite ourselves in order to teach and lead us to Jesus our Savior.
May this work increase your faith in Jesus and give you a more personal devotion to the most beautiful woman ever created by God, the Blessed Mother.
